SBC summit Americas: regulation and tax challenges in focus in LatAm
The event in Fort Lauderdale will serve as a "crisis table" for the industry. Leaders from Fecoljuegos, LOTBA, and Brazilian operators will discuss how to survive the new tax burden in Brazil and Colombia, and the advertising restrictions in Argentina.
Latin America has ceased to be an emerging promise to become a complex terrain where the sustainability of companies is at stake. Under this premise, SBC Summit Americas has confirmed its agenda for the upcoming June 10, 2026, dedicating its "Fifth Stage" exclusively to unraveling the legal and tax knots that pressure operators in the region.
Rasmus Sojmark, CEO of SBC, put it clearly: it is no longer enough to know the rules; it is vital to understand the political logic behind them. The meeting will bring together regulators, lawyers, and executives to discuss whether the current legal frameworks promote the industry or, on the contrary, are raising entry barriers impossible to overcome.
Brazil: Forced consolidation or diverse market?
One of the most anticipated panels, suggestively titled "Don’t kill the small one", will address the impact of the increased tax burden on GGR in Brazil. Experts such as Angelo Alberoni (A2FBR) and Marcos Sabiá (CEO of Galerabet) will analyze an uncomfortable reality: the possibility that high operating costs force local companies to sell their operations to international giants.
The debate will revolve around whether Brazilian regulation, in its revenue-raising zeal, is inadvertently designing an oligopoly where only companies with strong financial backing can survive, displacing local innovation.
Colombia and Argentina: Between VAT and advertising clampdown
The situation in Spanish-speaking markets will be another central focus. The panel on Colombia will highlight the recent debate about the 19% VAT on deposits. Figures such as Evert Montero (Fecoljuegos) and Iliana Pineda (Wplay) will examine how legal instability threatens the achievements of channeling, pushing users toward offshore sites.
Meanwhile, Argentina will have its space in the panel "The marketing labyrinth". Facing public scrutiny and projects to limit advertising, regulators like Ezequiel Domínguez (LOTBA) and executives like Santiago Gandara (BetWarrior) will discuss how the industry can defend its right to communicate without losing the "social license" to operate.
