Cipriani met with Orsi and set the opening for 2027
Giuseppe Cipriani has set a date for the opening of his complex in Punta del Este. After meeting with the president of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, to review the progress of the Hotel Casino San Rafael construction, the businessman confirmed that the inauguration is projected for October 2027, ahead of the 2027-2028 season.
The Italian investor described the meeting in positive terms and said that the president expressed his satisfaction with the return of workers to the site after the conflict with the construction company CRIBA. As a sign of this reactivation, he specified that 400 people entered the premises that same day and that another 300 are in training for the establishment's opening. Regarding the timelines, he estimated that construction would finish around April or May, with the inauguration planned for October of next year, and preferred to leave behind the period of tensions to focus on how to improve from now on.
Political support was not limited to the presidential meeting. In a separate meeting with Orsi, the mayor of Maldonado, Miguel Abella, also celebrated the return of the workers and agreed that the project is progressing, with some delay that he considered logical. The communal chief avoided attributing the delays to national or departmental management, stating that it is a matter between private parties in which neither the national nor the departmental government has jurisdiction, and maintained that the permits from both administrations functioned correctly. According to the data that emerged, the investment in the future complex already exceeds 248 million dollars, above what was committed in the tender.
The meeting comes to close several weeks of uncertainty about the venture. The works had been paralyzed due to contractual differences between the investing group and CRIBA, a conflict that led to about 250 workers being laid off and forced the postponement of the opening, initially planned for an earlier season. The project, built on the site of the historic Hotel San Rafael, includes a luxury hotel and residential complex with a casino, and its continuity had been a cause for concern until the agreement between the parties allowed the work pace to resume.
