State casino workers declare conflict; indefinite strike from Dec 26
The National Association of State Casino Officials (Anfuce) decided to declare a conflict and announced an indefinite national strike starting December 26, which will affect all gaming halls in the country. The measure was defined in a delegates' assembly, in rejection of budgetary changes that, according to the union, affect labor rights and were implemented without collective bargaining.
In a public statement, Anfuce denounced the violation of labor, salary, and functional rights, and assured that the budgetary modifications were adopted unilaterally, in contravention of current regulations. The union also warned of a "disguised salary cut" and an "attack on the administrative career," situations that, it affirmed, impact the stability and functional development of the workers.
Among its demands, the union called for concrete solutions for seasonal employees and real guarantees of job stability. Additionally, it proposed that workers should participate in the exploitation of online gambling and in the benefits it generates, considering that the future of the sector’s job source is at stake there.
Finally, Anfuce expressed its rejection of the leadership of the current Director of Casinos, Fernando Estévez, whom it accused of lack of dialogue, unilateral decision-making, simulation of collective bargaining instances, and mistreatment of employees. According to the union, his management deepens the conflict and deteriorates labor relations within the organization.
