IbIa: 29% more alerts in 2025, mostly in football and tennis
The international association reported 300 cases of unusual activity, driven by increased monitoring coverage. Thanks to this data, 54 fixed matches were confirmed and 24 involved parties were sanctioned.
The fight against match-fixing has new official figures. The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) published its 2025 annual report, recording a total of 300 alerts of suspicious betting sent to authorities and sports federations. This figure represents an increase of 29% compared to the 232 cases in 2024.
The organization clarifies that this rise is mainly attributed to the expansion of its surveillance network. By monitoring more than 1.5 million matches and a betting volume of US$ 300 billion annually, IBIA’s Global MAP platform has improved its sensitivity to detect irregularities. The system’s effectiveness was demonstrated as it served as evidence to confirm corruption in 54 sporting events during the year.
Football and Europe under the microscope
The breakdown by sport shows familiar patterns. Football (110 alerts) and tennis (74 alerts) remain the preferred targets of betting mafias. Geographically, Europe accounted for 35% of global notifications, although the report warns of an upward trend in the Americas.
"Our 2025 data highlights a familiar risk pattern," said Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA. However, he emphasized that the platform’s larger scale now allows for a faster and more coordinated response between operators and regulators to protect the integrity of competitions.
Africa on the horizon
The report dedicates a special chapter to the African continent, identified as the market with the greatest potential. With an estimated gross revenue of US$ 19.4 billion by 2030, IBIA warns that it is urgent to establish rigorous monitoring frameworks in the region. Between 2021 and 2025, 117 alerts have already been issued in Africa, underscoring the need for preventive institutional cooperation.
