IBIA reports 70 suspicious betting alerts in Q1 2026
The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has published its integrity report for the first quarter (Q1) of 2026, revealing a total of 70 alerts of suspicious betting reported to the competent authorities. These alerts involved 10 different sports during this period.
Global overview of alerts by sport and region
Football was the sport with the highest number of incidents, accounting for 25 alerts, representing 36% of the global total. It was followed by tennis with 16 alerts (24%) and eSports with 15 alerts (22%).
- Tennis: Of the total of 16 alerts, 6 corresponded to events outside the main professional circuits.
- eSports: The 15 alerts reported are classified as global or transnational, as they are not attributed to a specific country or continent.
- Table Tennis: 7 alerts were reported (10% of the total), all linked to competitions outside the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
- Other sports: The report also included alerts in volleyball (2), badminton (1), handball (1), cricket (1), MMA (1), and basketball (1).
Geographically, Europe led the volume of alerts with 20 reports (28%), followed by North America with 14 alerts (20%) and Asia with 9 alerts (13%). Africa and South America each registered 6 alerts, both representing 9% of the global total.
Focus on Latin America: Brazil's projected dominance
The report highlights South America with a particular focus on market evolution and integrity in the region. In terms of specific alerts for Q1 2026, cases were identified in:
- Tennis: Chile registered 3 alerts and Colombia 1.
- Football: Brazil reported 1 alert.
Beyond immediate alerts, IBIA emphasizes Brazil's prominent role in the region's betting ecosystem. By 2026, Brazil is projected to dominate the total betting market (land-based and online) in Latin America, representing 39% of the total gross gaming revenue (GGR). This figure is almost double that projected for Mexico (21%) and significantly surpasses Argentina (13%).
Regarding the Brazilian online sports betting market, sustained growth is forecast after the introduction of federal licenses in 2025. GGR is estimated to reach 28.8 billion reais by 2030, at which point federally licensed onshore operators will account for over 80% of the activity. Historically, between 2021 and 2025, Brazil accumulated 68 suspicious betting alerts, the vast majority concentrated in football (51 alerts).
