Buenos Aires legislature focuses on child gambling addiction
The Chamber of Deputies of the Province of Buenos Aires resumes its activity this Tuesday, February 24, with a clear priority on its agenda: the legislative approach to online gambling and the protection of minors. In this first session of the year, the 92 legislators will not only constitute the 47 permanent committees but will also kick off the unification of a series of projects that seek to mitigate the risks of problem gambling in the digital environment. The provincial ruling party leads this initiative with the aim of consolidating a consensus text that groups proposals from different blocs, which include everything from restricting access to gaming platforms in schools to limiting advertising in public spaces and creating specialized assistance centers.
This legislative push aligns with the technical measures already being implemented by the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos (IPLyC). Gonzalo Atanasof, head of the organization, has announced that work is underway on a strict regulatory framework to organize the advertising of licensed sites in traditional media and social networks, seeking to separate legal entertainment from vulnerable audiences. In parallel, the province has already begun to require the seven authorized platforms to implement cutting-edge security controls, such as biometric data validation and facial recognition with "proof of life" to prevent minors from accessing betting systems.
The urgency of the parliamentary debate is supported by the progress of projects that already have committee approval, such as the unified law that proposes blocking gambling sites and adult content on the internet networks of provincial educational establishments. While the Chamber of Deputies accelerates the analysis of these reforms to the Gaming Law, the sector observes with attention a process that promises to transform the regulation of online gambling in Argentina's main district, prioritizing prevention and awareness as fundamental tools to guarantee the integrity of the industry and the well-being of new generations.
