San Juan finalizes details to open its online betting market
With the technical drafting completed, the Social Action Fund is awaiting the signing of the decree to begin the bidding process. The goal is to combat illegal gambling with a regulated and secure offer.
The province of San Juan is about to formally join the map of regulated online gambling in Argentina. The Social Action Fund (CAS), the provincial regulatory body, confirmed that it has already completed the drafting of the regulatory framework and has sent the file to the Ministry of Finance for final approval.
Rolando Tello, Games Manager of the CAS, explained to the local newspaper La Provincia SJ that the technical work of the agency has already concluded. The document, which establishes the rules of the game for future operators, is now in a phase of administrative and political review. According to the official, as soon as the Ministry of Finance gives the green light and the decree is signed, they will be in a position to launch the bidding documents.
Tello was clear about the urgency the agency is managing: he assured that if the decision depended exclusively on the Fund, the bidding process would already be underway. However, he acknowledged that it is a complex procedure that requires fiscal validation from the Executive branch.
A modern framework to stop the black market
The delay in implementation, originally expected by the end of 2025, had its reasons. The president of the CAS, Juan Pablo Medina, had stated in December that the process took longer than estimated because they sought to shield the regulations.
To do this, the San Juan technicians studied the legislation of other Argentine provinces that already have mature markets, aiming to replicate the best practices in terms of technology and oversight. The goal is not only to collect revenue but to have legal and technological tools to block illegal betting sites that currently operate uncontrolled in the province.
While awaiting the administrative green light, the CAS continues working on Responsible Gaming protocols and monitoring clandestine platforms. The authorities’ premise is that the only effective way to protect bettors and combat gambling addiction is by offering a legal, supervised, and transparent alternative.
