CBF to decide in 2027 if it will leave a single operator for the Copa de Brasil

With over R$4,000m (US$781.1m) already secured for the audiovisual rights of the 2027-2030 cycle, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) can afford to choose who appears in the Copa do Brasil. This figure, almost 80 percent higher than the previous contract, is the backdrop for an internal discussion that could leave the tournament with a single betting operator among its advertisers.
The breaking point is set for 2027. From that edition onwards, the entity will take over the sale of commercial spaces, and this transfer allows for a complete redesign of the inventory. Globo Online reported that among the options on the table is reserving only one position for fixed-odds platforms, instead of the multitude of brands currently coexisting in the tournament's assets. Internally, they use one word to describe what they want to correct: overdose.
Cutting back does not mean emptying. For the remaining positions, the criterion aims to broaden the range of categories, with one condition: that the companies have a proven track record. The leadership wants to elevate the tournament's status and understands that the prestige of the advertisers enhances that of the product.
There is a second aspect, this time technical. Starting next year, the CBF also plans to produce the match signal itself, so that image quality does not depend on who broadcasts it. This decision has a direct commercial side: by taking control of the production, the Confederation will have graphic elements at its disposal that are not currently sold, including the clock, the enlarged scoreboard, statistics blocks, the best player plaque, the team lineup card, and the stamp that appears with each goal.
The buyers for the 2027-2030 window are already defined. Amazon Prime on one side and Grupo Globo on the other, the latter with TV Globo, SporTV, Premiere, and GE TV.
The CBF governs Brazilian football and organizes the Copa do Brasil, the knockout tournament that brings together clubs from all states across the country. Fixed-odds betting has operated under license in Brazil since January 1, 2025, and during that time, it has become one of the main sponsoring categories in local football, both on jerseys and in tournament assets. This weight explains why any adjustment by the Confederation in its quotas immediately impacts the industry's accounts, and it comes as several legislative initiatives seek to limit the sector's advertising exposure.
