DGOJ launches "Stop Juego": mobile self-exclusion app
The Spanish regulator modernizes access to the General Register of Prohibitions. The new tool allows users to block themselves from online and physical casinos in minutes, using digital identity systems such as Cl@ve.
The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ) has taken a decisive step to reduce friction in responsible gambling processes. With the official launch of the Stop Juego app, Spain puts within reach the possibility to register in the General Register of Access Prohibitions to Gambling (RGIAJ).
Until now, the decision to self-exclude sometimes involved in-person procedures or web processes that could be complex during times of personal crisis. The new app radically simplifies this process: it allows users to request self-exclusion directly from their mobile phone, without the need for travel or physical paperwork, speeding up the response to problematic gambling behavior.
An omnichannel shield
The app’s operation is based on security and immediacy. To register, the user must validate their identity through official Spanish administration systems, such as Cl@ve or the electronic certificate. Once the procedure is confirmed, the block is activated automatically and across all channels.
The significance of this measure lies in its scope. Registration through the app not only prevents access to all licensed online gambling platforms in Spain but also blocks entry to physical establishments that require identity verification at the door, such as casinos, bingo halls, and gaming salons.
The DGOJ highlighted that this tool also includes verification mechanisms to ensure that operators effectively comply with the restrictions. The app is already available for free download on both the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android), consolidating the regulator’s strategy to use technology to protect the most vulnerable groups.
