Online gaming grows over 16% in Q3 2025, accelerating expansion

The Spanish online gambling market closed the third quarter of 2025 with a clear sign of structural strength. Between July and September, gross gaming revenue reached EUR 405.36 million, according to the latest report published by the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling. Although the figure represents a slight adjustment compared to the previous quarter, the year-on-year growth was 16.5 percent, confirming a sustained positive trend throughout the year.

User behavior accompanied this evolution. Deposits and withdrawals grew strongly compared to the same period in 2024, with increases of 18.19 percent and 16.82 percent respectively. In the quarterly comparison, both figures showed slight declines, a sign of stabilization after a particularly active first half of the year. Marketing spending and the creation of new accounts also slightly decreased compared to the previous quarter, although they maintained positive annual variations.

The casino is once again the market’s driving force

The distribution of GGR once again highlighted the weight of online casino within the regulated Spanish ecosystem. This segment generated EUR 230.98 million, almost 57 percent of the total, and recorded an annual growth close to 23 percent. Slot machines led the expansion, with a year-on-year increase of 27.78 percent, while live roulette also showed advances compared to the previous quarter.

Bets accounted for nearly 37 percent of the GGR, with EUR 149.50 million. Although the segment fell more than 13 percent compared to the second quarter, it maintained an annual growth of 10 percent. Within this category, a strong correction was observed in traditional matched betting, partly offset by growth in live betting and other modalities.

Poker maintained positive performance, with a quarterly increase of 13.59 percent and a year-on-year improvement close to 6 percent. Both cash poker and tournaments showed upward numbers. In contrast, bingo was again the weakest segment, with declines both quarterly and annually.

More efficient marketing and focus on affiliation

During the quarter, operators allocated EUR 154.84 million to marketing. Although total spending was 6 percent lower than the previous quarter, it grew almost 18 percent in year-on-year terms. The breakdown shows a clear change in commercial strategy: affiliation was the only category with quarterly growth, while sponsorship, advertising, and promotions adjusted downward.

In the annual comparison, all categories showed increases, highlighting the strong growth of sponsorship and promotions. Within the latter, more than EUR 28 million corresponded to bonuses released as prizes, while the rest was concentrated in incentives not included in prizes.

Active users and operators in the market

The monthly average of active accounts stood at 1.65 million users, with a decline close to 3 percent compared to the previous quarter, but an annual growth exceeding 14 percent. New accounts also decreased in quarterly terms, although they managed to remain practically stable in the year-on-year comparison.

At the close of the third quarter, 64 of the 77 licensed operators had at least one active singular license. The casino continued to be the vertical with the highest number of operators, followed by betting, poker, and bingo.

Overall, the third quarter data confirm that the Spanish online gambling market continues to expand annually, with a model increasingly supported by digital casino, a growing user base, and a more selective commercial focus following regulatory adjustments in recent years.
