ESports will generate 1.34 billion dollars in Mexico in 2025
The consultancy Blue Global Gaming has presented a comprehensive analysis of the eSports market in Mexico, projecting that this sector will reach a volume of 1.34 billion dollars by 2025. This figure, extracted from a recent study, positions electronic sports as one of the main growth drivers within the digital entertainment industry in the country.
According to Blue Global Gaming, both eSports and online casinos have shown remarkable resilience and growth following the pandemic years. The consultancy highlights that “not only do they continue to grow, but they do so at an accelerated pace,” driven by an increasingly broad and youthful audience. eSports, officially recognized as a sport in Mexico since February 2019, have experienced unprecedented popularity.
According to a 2020 study, nearly 11 million Mexicans reported having watched professional online video game tournaments that year, while 8.4 million actively participated as competitors. By 2025, the value of the video game market in Mexico is estimated at over 30 billion pesos, with eSports representing approximately 5% of that figure. The electronic sports audience in the country exceeds 12 million people, including both spectators and players. In the last five years, eSports revenues have grown significantly, rising from 988 million dollars to the 1.34 billion projected for this year.
At the regional level, the eSports audience in Latin America is expected to exceed 55 million viewers by 2025. Blue Global Gaming differentiates between two types of audiences: enthusiasts, who consume eSports more than once a month, and occasional viewers, who do so less frequently. Currently, there are 261 million enthusiastic viewers globally, a figure that could increase to 318 million by the end of 2025. Meanwhile, occasional viewers total 271 million and are expected to reach 332.7 million this year.
The report emphasizes that eSports open new opportunities for betting houses by offering niche markets with a high frequency of events and innovative types of bets, such as predictions on kills, maps, or victory time. Additionally, the integration of digital reward systems, such as NFTs, tokens, or skins, is especially attractive to a young, digital, and social audience.
In Mexico, eSports are still in an emerging stage, which represents a competitive advantage for operators who enter the market early and develop localized content, their own tournaments, or partnerships with influencers in the gaming sector. A notable example is the Kings League, a semi-professional 7-a-side football league created in Barcelona in November 2022 by former footballer Gerard Piqué and his company Kosmos. This league, which arrived in Mexico in 2024, has achieved resounding success on social media and features twelve teams led by well-known streamers or former footballers.
Mexico also has the Mexican eSports Federation (FEMES), responsible for regulating the activity in the country. It is estimated that there are 72 million video game players in Mexico, of whom 8.4 million have competed in online tournaments. The sustained growth of the industry and the consolidation of eSports as a cultural and economic phenomenon forecast a promising future for the sector in Mexico and Latin America.
