BETBY: Peru, one of LATAM's most promising online markets
BETBY published a new analysis on the regulated gaming industry in Peru, positioning the country as one of the economies with the greatest potential for the development of online betting in Latin America. The report, titled “The Peruvian Revolution: A Market Ready to Take Off”, highlights the speed with which the local ecosystem is consolidating as one of the most structured and predictable in the region.
A regulated market already showing signs of maturity
Following the entry into force of the online gaming regulatory framework in 2024, the first indicators confirm accelerated growth. The projections included in the study estimate that the online GGR could reach 1.3 billion euros by 2030, a figure that represents a 35-fold increase compared to 2003.
One of the most marked trends is the expansion of mobile gaming: according to the analysis, mobile devices will account for almost 50% of digital GGR before the end of the decade. In its first year of regulation, 59% of online GGR has already migrated to the formal market, a result of strict supervision and a licensing system that prioritizes transparency.
Habits of the Peruvian bettor: digital, active, and omnichannel
The study also highlights the high level of interaction of the Peruvian public:
- 87% of bettors follow the events they bet on, the highest percentage in Latin America.
- 28% maintain a preference for physical points, reflecting that the in-person channel continues to play an important role in certain segments.
For BETBY, this duality is one of the keys to the Peruvian market.
“Peru is rapidly adapting to international standards without losing the essence of its betting culture. There is a real demand for digitalization, but also for omnichannel experiences,” explained Stefanos Karakidis, the company’s business development director.
Economic projection: an industry with growing impact
The report points out that the gaming industry will continue to gain weight in the Peruvian economy. By 2030, the sector is estimated to represent 0.63% of GDP, more than double the 0.24% recorded in 2003. This growth is driven by factors such as increased disposable income, macroeconomic stability, and greater adoption of digital solutions.
In terms of individual spending, the average outlay per adult would increase from 6.87 euros to 82.61 euros over two decades, reflecting a market with greater maturity and diversification.
Karakidis summarizes this scenario clearly:
“The growth rate is compelling. Peru is evolving quickly and opens space for sustainable long-term strategies. It is, without a doubt, a market that will remain on the radar of global operators.”
