Bet builders doubled their weight in World Cup betting

Almost four out of ten single bets registered during the 2026 World Cup were combinations created by the user themselves. This data comes from the report published by Altenar on the 104 matches of the tournament, where Bet Builders reached 39.6% of the total, compared to the 20.28% they had achieved in the 2024 Euro Cup.

The average bet amount followed a curve similar to that of sporting interest. In the group stage, it ranged between 3 and 5 euros, and climbed to a range of 10 to 13 euros when the tournament reached the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final.

In player markets, the distribution was less a response to performance than to prior recognition. The most popular names garnered attention, and the turnover from Player Specials quadrupled the figures from the 2024 Euro Cup.

The survey is based on the behavior of amounts, the adoption of custom combinations, the distribution between single and multiple bets, market preferences, volume per match, bets on the champion and top scorers, and the link between bettors' expectations and what ultimately happened on the field.

Thanos Ntakis, the company's Head of Account Management, interpreted these numbers as an operational signal. In his opinion, the combination of broad markets and quick response to trends is what allows an operator to accompany the different stages of a long tournament.

Altenar develops and provides sports betting platforms for operators, and regularly publishes studies on bettor behavior. This material serves as commercial input for its partners, who use it when deciding which markets to open for major events.
